How I got here is a story to follow later, but for now let's just say it involves a marathon trade show in Hannover (CeBIT), an escape from the Russian mob, and a train ride.
I've been in Germany for about 12 days now, just under the halfway mark of my month-long European adventure. Berlin is a great city, and I'm glad to be back after 14 years.
So far I've re-visited most of the main touristy sites, and I've also explored some of the less well known areas, most of them in the former East Berlin. There's a whole lot of stuff to tell, but for now I will just leave you with a few selections that summarize my trip:
- So far this trip, my liquid intake can be broken down into approximately the following ratios:
- 60% beer
- 25% Fanta (world's best soft drink)
- 10% Water
- 5% Coffee and Red Bull
- I love that in Germany an organic snack stand near a subway station can sell almost exclusively sausage and french fries. That said, if you're ever near KaDeWe and the Wittenberg U-Bahn station, have a curry wurst (sausage) at Witty's.
- I don't quite understand how a 24-hour long Internet connection at a hotel can cost €25, while parking for the same period only cost €5. Apparently Germany is the opposite of San Francisco.
