399 and counting

A while back I was in LA on business and during one of my ridiculous 2 hour commutes through the concrete jungle I heard a news story on the radio about how a Ferrari Enzo, one of only 400 in the world, had been completely totaled that morning on Pacific Coast Highway near Malibu. Seems the car actually sheared in half. At the time they couldn't find either the driver or the passenger anywhere, although both airbags deployed. Well, I just came across a few sites that have quite a bit of info on this crash, and the story just keeps getting more and more interesting. Turns out the driver was a former tech executive who stepped down from his former post amid charges of fraud and alleged mob ties. He's also been in prison before, and it seems he has a history of impersonating police officers, which is also what he appears to have done on the day of this Ferrari wreck. Moreover, it turns out the Ferrari was not street legal in the US and may not even have belonged to this guy, if you believe the claims by a Scottish bank that says it was in the process of reposessing the vehicle. Here are some good links to photos, videos and more details: http://wreckedexotics.com/special/enzo/ http://www.valleywag.com/tech/gizmondo/index.php I guess the only possible good thing to come of this is that for the owners of the remaining 399 Ferrari Enzos, their cars just became a little bit more rare.
