learning curve

The other day I finally splurged and got myself a Tivo. It's nice. Very nice. Very very nice. But it takes some getting used to. I guess 25 years of watching t.v. the old-fashioned way has got me in a rut. For some reason, even though I have this magic wand of a remote control which lets me fast-forward through commercials and transcend the boundaries of time, sometimes I forget. I forget I have this power, so when the commercials come on I still find myself going to the kitchen, or checking email, or running to the bathroom. Then I stop myself and say, "Self, you don't have to run away. You can stop time. You can fast-forward through time! The t.v. doesn't own you...you own the t.v.!" It's very liberating...when I can remember.
